Course No. 5 3-day workshop
DESIGN STITCH STORIES II
This sewing workshop deals with inspiration, design, and the colors used in textile work.
The course participants experiment with methods and techniques that I use for the structures of my quilts. The focus is on painting, printing, and drawing with the sewing machine on fabric or paper.
Fundamentals of color theory, idea and theme finding using mind mapping, and various exercises provide insight into the structure, organization, and execution of a work.
Simplified forms of mixed media techniques and an insight into special printing processes, as well as individual work with colors, are practiced and tested.
We are specifically experimenting with a printing process directly onto prepared cotton fabrics.
We process the printed fabrics with shapes and line examples to create new blocks and stitch our interpretations into the created blocks using the sewing machine.
The individual products can be used in larger projects.
No special prior knowledge is required.
Difficulty: Beginner to advanced
Class size: 4-10 people

Course No. 6 3-day workshop
Improvisations and Interpretations I
They practice spontaneously designing and combining fabrics. Combination designs with the chosen fabrics are created spontaneously. The joining of the elements is practiced freely and is generally done without basting, using a sewing machine.
We experiment with fabrics, color values, and different materials, learning to give balance the necessary weight. We practice creative ways to maintain harmony in a piece and the use of light and contrasting colors to achieve a clear artistic statement. The effect of forms and colors in conjunction with fundamental design principles forms the basis of this workshop.
Exercises focusing on expression, harmony and balance in the interplay of colors, shapes and lines form the core of this course.
Difficulty: Beginner to advanced
Class size: 3 - 6 people
